Mobile Recycling Centre springs up in time for clear-outs

Southwark’s Mobile Recycling Centre has started a new collection circuit so that it visits the busiest places in the borough and enables residents to recycle more easily. With spring fast approaching the Mobile Recycling Centre will benefit all those residents planning to have a spring clear-out and wanting an easy way to get rid of recyclable items that can’t be placed with their normal household collection.

The Mobile Recycling Centre is a service run by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of Southwark Council and visits central Southwark hotspots every Wednesday so that residents can drop off recyclables. Hotspots include Dulwich library, Canada Water library, Peckham library and Walworth’s ‘my Southwark service point’.

Items such as textiles and shoes, small appliances, batteries, tapes and discs, wood and timber and large cardboard items can all be deposited. These items will then be taken to Southwark’s Integrated Waste Management Facility before being sent to reprocessors for recycling.

For residents who need advice on recycling or how to minimise their waste, a Recycling Support Officer will also be on board to offer advice on being green and while stocks last, give away free recycling goodies!

Fabrice Bouchon, General Manager for Veolia Environmental Services in Southwark said: “The Mobile Recycling Centre helps us to broaden our services and be even more convenient for residents. With spring just round the corner I hope that our mobile service will be of great benefit to all those planning a spring clear-out.”

For information about where the Mobile Recycling Centre will be visit the Southwark website. www.southwark.gov.uk/recycling and go to the Mobile Recycling Centre page.
The Mobile Recycling Centre was funded by the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB); who provided £50,000 to set up this new scheme to help increase Southwark’s residents opportunities to recycle.
