All primary and secondary schools in the borough were invited to take part in the recycling radio advert challenge organised by Southwark Council's recycling and waste partner, Veolia, and UTV Media. Pupils were asked to write and record a 60 second radio advert encouraging listeners to recycle more at home as part of the U Create project.
Overall, there were 12 entries from seven schools and Councillor Darren Merrill and Veolia’s Education Team carefully selected the winner and their advert has been professionally produced and was broadcast on local radio station Reprezent. Fabrice Bouchon, General Manager for Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility said: “It is great to see schools taking part in the competition and engaged with recycling. We congratulate St John’s Roman Catholic Primary School and thank all the entries for promoting recycling in the home.”
Cllr Darren Merrill, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Recycling said: “Many congratulations to the pupils of St John’s Roman Catholic Primary School and all the other entrants. The winners did a remarkable job and I hope they go to encourage all their family and friends to recycle.”
