Find out how your Southwark community project can apply for funding
Veolia Southwark, through their Recycling Fund for Communities, is once again looking for local community projects to support, which focus on protecting the environment and encouraging people to do the right thing with their waste.
This World Environment Day (Tuesday 5th June) Veolia Southwark is inviting local community groups to the Recycling Fund Launch 2018, an event for people with ideas for protecting resources and improving their local environment. Attendees will be able to tour Veolia Southwark’s recycling facility to see what happens to their plastics and other recyclables after collection. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the Recycling Fund for Communities and talk to Veolia Southwark’s team about getting their project funded, as well as getting other kinds of support such as materials, equipment or volunteers.

In addition, this year Southwark-based community projects that have a positive impact on plastic waste could receive double the money, with the maximum pledge increased from £1,000 to £2,000. The increased funding for plastics reflects Veolia’s long-standing investment in finding circular solutions for waste and its ongoing support of the communities in which it operates.
Last year five amazing projects in Southwark have sprung to life through donations of money, volunteers, equipment, and materials. Marden Square Sheltered Housing TRA, also known as ‘Marden Codgers’, made use of recycled materials to develop a new community green space complete with a beautiful array of flowers and plants. The recycling of resources was very important to the group; they created hanging baskets from recycled materials and used 700kgs of compost which is recycled from the food and garden waste that Veolia collects. A year later and the Square still provides 180 households with a lovely view and space to relax in.
East Dulwich Community Centre received £540 in order to run a Community Give and Take event which encouraged the East Dulwich community to recycle, reuse and swap, for free, unwanted household items rather than seeing them go in the bin. Lamlash Gardens wanted to see a new neighbourhood hub serve residents in the heart of Elephant and Castle and with a donation of £1000, are able to adapt two local sites, parking and storage areas which were a hotspot for fly-tipping, into a more vibrant community resource, linking inspirational green spaces with a community centre and work studios.
