On Wednesday 23 November, Veolia SELCHP and the Southwark Council were awarded the "Commercial / Public Sector Project of the Year" award for their district heating partnership. The award was presented by the Association for Decentralised Energy at the Natural History Museum.

The winning project represents a £7 million investment by Veolia and serves around 2,700 properties managed by Southwark Council. The scheme offers a more environmentally friendly, renewable and cost effective energy source resulting in a reduction in carbon dioxide of around 8,000 tonnes per annum. A win for residents and for the local environment!

Robbie Jameson, General Manager, Veolia SELCHP commented: “I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised for this award. Through Veolia’s partnership with Southwark Council, we’ve been able to make energy provision more sustainable for local people and successfully implement a service in a logistically challenging urban setting. We look forward to continuing to develop our local network in the years ahead.”

Councillor Ian Wingfield, cabinet member for environment and public realm, said:  “This award is an excellent achievement. We are proud to be leading the way with our partners, Veolia, in providing alternative options to heat generation. We’ve taken on today’s current challenges around rising gas prices and high carbon emissions head on with an innovative scheme that means that we’re able to bring about significant environmental benefits to Southwark residents.”

The Association for Decentralised Energy Awards showcase innovation, best practice and achievements across combined heat and power, district heating, demand response and energy services. Now in its ninth year, the awards provide an opportunity for organisations and professionals from across the growing sector to celebrate success and collective attainment.
